Due to an increase in drugs and contraband that has been entering correctional facilities through the mail, the Grand Traverse County Jail has implemented a policy to reduce these activities and promote a safe environment for staff, visitors and incarcerated individuals.
Accepted Mail:
Postcards 5x7”, plain white, metered postage, typed or handwritten in ink
Legal Mail (Clearly marked)
Mail that is NOT accepted:
Letters of any kind
Colored pictures
Photographs
Article clippings
Printed articles
Money orders
Inmate to inmate mail
Blank stationary/stamped envelopes
o Anything that has: Staples, Paperclips, Stickers, Cardboard or laminated cards, Tape, Glue, Paint, Whiteout, Glitter (cards with glitter will be returned), Perfume/cologne, Foreign substance of any kind, Lipstick and String or ribbon.

* Any mail items that are not accepted will be returned to sender and the inmate notified.
INMATES CAN PURCHASE ENVELOPES AND WRITING MATERIALS ON THE COMMISSARY MENU, AND IF INDIGENT MAY REQUEST FROM THE CHAPLAIN.
