Special Events

The Senior Center Network is involved in many special/community events throughout the county.  We are able to participate in these special events, thanks to the help of countless volunteers.  If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer, please see our volunteers page.  

90 Over 90 Celebration

  • Spring 2021

Celebrate the lives of those who helped shape our community and continue to make the Grand Traverse Region a vibrant place to live, work and play. Hear stories, see pictures, enjoy brunch and a view of the bay. Join us in honoring the special individuals who have made our community what it is today. We are able to host this event with financial support from our presenting sponsor, the Grand Traverse Pavilions, and the support of additional sponsors including: Comfort Keepers, Monarch Home Health, Munson Home Health, Life Story Funeral Home, Hospice of Michigan, Swenson Memorials, Village at Bay Ridge, BrightStar of Northern Michigan, Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan, Options for Senior Living, Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging, Villa at Traverse Point, and Heartland Hospice. 

Veteran’s Appreciation Event - Hometown Heroes

Tour of local monuments, memorials and more!

Be part of this special celebration honoring our home town heroes. A guided BATA bus tour will take participants to the region’s many monuments and memorials that commemorate local veteran’s service. Following the tour, enjoy lunch and a special program at the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station. Buses are wheelchair-and walker-accessible.

Assisted Living Home Tours


  • Offered Spring and Fall 
  • Free
When its time for seniors to move out of their homes, learn about the choices available in our area. Full day of touring 3-5 local assisted living establishments, led by a senior housing specialist who knows the properties and can address all your questions about senior housing. The Senior Housing checklist is distributed, giving you a tool to use when comparing different housing options. Bus transportation, snacks along the way; no lunch. Family members are welcome to join along with you. Advance registration required.

Cherry Festival Activities - Senior Events

The Senior Center hosts several Cherry Festival senior events. All events take place at 801 E. Front  St., Traverse City, MI 49686. All ages welcome: once you start play, you must finish, intermediate game knowledge expected. Advanced registration required/ walk-ins based on availability. Twin Lakes Fitness Programming


A partnership between Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation and Crystal Bindi Studios at Twin Lakes Park

Crystal Bindi Dance Studio began with the goal of facilitating positive transformation, both physical and personal, through the freeing art of dance. This fun and adventurous dance community is about gaining wellness from the inside out. Now through a new partnership with Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation, at the Gilbert Lodge at Twin Lakes, we offer a new and fun way to come play in your parks today. Listen to the rhythms of live drums or just the peaceful sounds of the lake as you relax and enjoy. No prior dance or fitness experience necessary; any age, size, fitness level welcome. ​AARP Tax Assistance
During the months of February, March and April - volunteers from AARP assist senior citizens in completing simple tax returns, at no charge, through the Senior Center Network.

Qualifications
To qualify to have your taxes completed:
  • You must be of low or middle income
  • You must have a simple tax return to complete
