Emergency Preparedness

Our Emergency Preparedness team at the Grand Traverse County Health Department (GTCHD) is dedicated to building a more resilient community for the residents, workers, and visitors of Grand Traverse County (GTC). We coordinate plans and response efforts to address public health threats such as natural disasters, man-made disasters, infectious diseases, and other emergencies that impact public health. Our team works closely with local hospitals, surrounding county health departments, emergency medical teams, county emergency planners, and regional, state, and federal authorities to ensure a quick and efficient response to any emergency.

Cable Gun Locks Educational Resources:

The GTCHD offers free cable gun locks, while supplies last, to help you keep your family safe and comply with Michigan’s Safe Storage Law. The law took effect on February 13, 2024, requiring individuals to keep unattended weapons unloaded and locked with a locking device or store them in a locked box or container if a child is likely to be on the premises.
