Additional Services

The Grand Traverse County Health Department (GTCHD) Sanitarians conduct inspections utilizing the highest public health standards to help maintain a safe and healthy experience for members and visitors of our Northern Michigan community.

Public Swimming Pool Inspections:

Public swimming pool facilities must obtain a license through the State of Michigan and receive annual inspections by GTCHD to ensure the required safeguards are in place to minimize potential risks associated with swimming. These safeguards help protect swimmers from illnesses, injuries, or tragic events. Our team ensures that swimming establishments have plans in place to respond effectively to incidents within the pool area and that the facility is well-maintained and in good working order.

Campground Inspections:

Campground facilities must obtain a license through the State of Michigan and receive annual inspections by GTCHD. Inspections are performed following the guidelines outlined in the Michigan Public Health Code. These inspections ensure regulatory and safety requirements are met. Additionally, GTCHD issues temporary campground licenses for locations that operate for less than two weeks.

Adult and Childcare Facility Inspections:

Our team at the GTCHD conducts environmental health inspections for a variety of care facilities, including foster homes, family and group daycare homes, childcare centers, and children's camps. These inspections are an integral component of a larger licensing process that helps keep our community safe. Inspections may involve an assessment of food service, cleaning and sanitation, sewage disposal and water supply, water sampling, and recreational facilities.
