April 14, 2025: Grand Traverse County Commissioners Honored at MAC Graduation

Grand Traverse County Commissioners Andrews, Morris, and Flynn Honored as Member of Class of 2025 for County Commissioner Academy

Grand Traverse County Commissioners Andrews, Morris and Flynn were among 40 county commissioners from across Michigan to be honored on April 8, 2025, in Lansing as a graduate of the Michigan Association of Counties’ County Commissioner Academy (CCA).

The GT County Commissioners were presented with a certificate of their accomplishment by MAC Board President Melissa Daub of Wayne County during a session of the 2025 Michigan Counties Legislative Conference.

County Commissioner Academy was started by MAC in 2019 as a professional development program for commissioners incorporating a series of events and workshops focused on the day-to-day responsibilities of a Michigan county commissioner.

Commissioners earn "credits" by participating in MAC conferences, webinars and other special briefings by such partners as Michigan State University Extension and the Michigan Department of Treasury.

“It’s not well understood publicly just how demanding the job of county commissioner is,” said Stephan W. Currie, executive director of the Michigan Association of Counties. “That’s why it’s so important for our group to give members every bit of data and expertise available. The fact we have now issued more than 170 certifications in just a few years is testament to both the value of the academy and the professionalism of our commissioners.”
