  • Learning Partners help students (K-6) with school work and social skills. Working with a student on an individual basis, the Learning Partner works in conjunction with the classroom teacher. Most meet with the student during the school day.

The Learning Partner provides emotional support and is sensitive to the social development of the student. He or she is an adult friend with whom the student may develop trust and share concerns.

  • Tutors meet with their students 1-2 hours each week at the school or public library. Learning Partners is a "year-round" program.

Positive learning experiences outside of the classroom are encouraged. Some of these experiences include planned group activities such as field trips to the Great Lakes Children's Museum, Old Town Playhouse, ice skating, and the annual "Swimming and Water Safety Program" offered free of charge to Learning Partner students and their siblings.
    Learning Partners
  • Students are referred to the program by their teachers and counselors. Learning Partners is a prevention program targeting at-risk youth. A typical Learning Partner student needs emotional support and social guidance, in addition to academic help. Students in this program are not court involved. The Program Coordinator matches the student with a Partner on the basis of input from both parties.
