Gregg Bird is the Emergency Management Coordinator for Grand Traverse County and the Past President of the Michigan Emergency Management Association.

Gregg has been involved in Public Safety since 1990. He has 30 years of experience in the fire service, cumulating with being Fire Chief of the Galena (MD) Fire Company in 2008, and over 25 years in 9-1-1 and organizational management. His Emergency Management career began officially in 2005 while deployed to the Mississippi State Emergency Operations Center in response to Hurricane Katrina.

Until being selected as Grand Traverse County Emergency Management Coordinator in 2013, he was the Deputy Director of Emergency Services for Kent County, Maryland Office of Emergency Services. His duties included the daily management and operation of the county’s multi-discipline 9-1-1 center, the Advanced Life Support Emergency Medical Services program, as well as the Operations Chief for the Emergency Operations Center. He has also been deployed to numerous national incidents of significance, including Hurricane Katrina, The Mississippi and Red River Floods of 2006, Hurricanes Gustav & Ike, and the US assistance to the State Department as a result of the Haiti earthquake.

Gregg is a certified State of Michigan Professional Emergency Manager, is a 2018 graduate of the National Emergency Management Institute Executive Leadership Academy, is an Emergency Management Instructor for the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training at Louisiana State University, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Management from the University of Maryland.
