Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation, along with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), have announced their online crowdfunding campaign for a new play structure at the Civic Center Park.

The crowdfunding campaign is for a citizen-envisioned play area, plans for which have been in progress since Kids Kove was removed last year due to safety issues. Early in 2016, County Parks and Recreation surveyed the community about its wishes and wants for a new play structure, and then in March invited residents to vote for one of three proposed designs, all from different vendors. The winning design (by Penchura), reflects the Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation Commission’s and community’s collective desire “to bring a safe, inclusive, and family-centric structure again to Civic Center Park.”

Once $50,000 of community donations are pledged through the Patronicity crowdfunding platform, the project will win a matching grant from the MEDC and MSHDA “Public Spaces Community Places” program.

The project is estimated at $150,000.
