Written Clerical Test

The Grand Traverse County written clerical test is a general test that is used for many positions within the county. The written clerical test is scheduled on an as-needed basis. Selected candidates will be contacted for testing.

Areas of Testing

The test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions and covers such areas as:
  • Filing
  • Grammar
  • Problem solving
  • Reading comprehension
  • Spelling
  • Tabular interpretation
  • Vocabulary
Math Calculations
In addition, you will also be asked to complete some basic math calculations, however, no calculators are allowed. We provide all of the testing materials needed. The only item you should bring with you is your driver's license which will provide picture identification.

Testing Requirements

You are allowed 1.5 hours to complete the test. If you finish the test prior to that time, you may leave the testing room when you are done. If you leave, however, you will not be permitted to return. If you are physically unable to comply with this condition, please let the proctor know so that other arrangements can be made.

Scoring & Retesting
You must receive a score of 60 or better to pass. Once you have taken this test, you must wait 1 year to retake it. Please note that If you re-take the test, we will keep the most current test score on file.

Passing the Test
Passing the test does not necessarily guarantee that you will be granted an interview.
