Emergency Management

The Grand Traverse County Emergency Management Department plans and coordinates with all public safety agencies as well as non-governmental organizations to provide for the safety of every resident, employee, and visitor in Grand Traverse County. Because it is never known when a disaster may strike, our professional team has developed an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and stands ready to initiate and direct the plan in the event of a full-scale area emergency.

In addition to the EOP,  conducting regular surveillance, testing plans, practice drills, and review of emergency policies and procedures, are on-going responsibilities of the Department. Grand Traverse County Emergency Management works closely with Emergency Coordinators of the Region 7 Homeland Security Planning Board, Michigan Emergency Management Association (MEMA), and other Emergency Preparedness committees, as well as community partners, to ensure a coordinated, effective response to any regional emergency disaster or event.

Community Reminder

During an emergency, Community Notifications will be conducted utilizing the CodeRED mass notification system. Additionally, WTCM 103.5/93.5 FM and 580 AM are the designated Emergency Alert System representatives for North West Michigan including all of Grand Traverse County and the City of Traverse City.

If there is a major emergency, or a Local State of Emergency is declared, then important information will be provided by tuning radios to 103.5/93.5 FM or 580 AM.
