Active Shooter Awareness

With the ever changing world we live in, law enforcement response must constantly be changing with it. The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office understands the importance of training our personnel to be able to respond to emergency situations. On a regular basis, personnel with the Sheriff's Office conducts in-house active shooter trainings at various locations.  This ensures that all of our staff are utilizing the most up to date tactics to respond to an active shooter situation.

Our office works hand in hand with area schools and their administration to develop response plans. We encourage area schools and businesses to visit the Department of Homeland Security website. This is a great resource for finding information regarding active shooter and workplace violence situations as well as how to prepare for them.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind you that the best course of action regarding an Active Shooter situation is to be prepared and have a response plan in place. The following information and videos serve as an excellent reference and training tools to share with family, friends, and co-workers.

Workplace Training

In an effort to help local businesses prepare for an active shooter event, we provide employee safety and workplace violence training, teaching staff how to deal with active shooters or violent people and situations.  If you have an interest in having our agency provide this valuable training to your staff, please contact Lieutenant Chris Oosse at coosse@gtsheriff.org or 231-995-5044.
