Household Hazardous Waste

Grand Traverse County residents may dispose of 150 pounds of hazardous materials at no charge. A $1.30/pound fee will be charged for quantities greater than 150 pounds.  Please bring cash or a check.  

  • Appointments are REQUIRED. Appointments will not be available until approximately one month before each event. 
  • Household Hazardous Waste ONLY

    • Electronics will not be accepted.
    • Tires will not be accepted. 
    • Appliances will not be accepted.

Business/Organization Hazardous Waste

  • Appointments are REQUIRED for all non-residential businesses, organizations, and schools, etc.
  • Businesses do not use the online appointment system 
  • VSQG appointment (very small quantity generator) click here. Complete the form once per calendar year, at least 10 days prior to your first event. 
  • Hazardous material inventory click here. Complete the form at least 7 days prior to each event attending. T
  • There is a $1.30/pound fee for quantities of hazardous waste greater than 150 pounds. 

An organization qualifies as a Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) IF:

  • No more than 220 pounds (or about 25 gallons) of hazardous waste is generated in a given calendar month AND
  • No more than 220 pounds of hazardous was accumulated in a given month.

Michigan Clean Sweep Program (Pesticides) 

The Michigan Clean Sweep Program helps protect the State's natural resources and prevent agriculture pollution by ensuring the safe and proper disposal of outdated, unused or unwanted pesticides in Michigan.

Grand Traverse County participates in the Clean Sweep Program and accepts pesticide products from all Michigan residents, agri-businesses, and farms without fee.
